Our Guiding Principles
• Holistic View: We treat the individual as an integrated system of emotions, cognitions, behaviors, physiology, and environmental interactions.
• Collaborative Partnership: Therapy is a voluntary, active collaboration built on respect, transparency, and clear boundaries.
• Skill-Based Empowerment: We prioritize teaching practical self-help skills to ensure that progress is durable and extends beyond the therapy room.
• Goal-Oriented: Our ultimate aim is sustainable, long-term improvement in life quality and personal agency, not merely short-term symptom management.
Complementary & Integrative Practices

We recognize that addiction often narrows one’s capacity for experiencing pleasure. To support holistic recovery, we may incorporate tailored adjunctive practices aimed at rebuilding the connection to the body, healthy emotions, and alternative sources of reward.

These can include elements of expressive arts, somatic practices, and mindful physical activities aligned with the client’s interests—such as yoga, breathwork, or nature-based activities like surfing. These are not stand-alone treatments but are thoughtfully woven into the broader therapeutic process to enhance engagement and well-being.
Our Core Therapeutic Modalities

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Focus: Identifying and modifying the dysfunctional thought patterns and behaviors that sustain addiction, anxiety, and the cycle of relapse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Focus: A structured skills-training approach that builds competency in four key areas: mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Schema Therapy
Focus: Addressing persistent, self-defeating life patterns (“schemas”) and coping styles that often originate in early development and underlie ongoing difficulties.

Trauma-Informed Care
Approach: Trauma-processing work is carefully sequenced, beginning only after establishing emotional stability and core self-regulation skills. All interventions are paced for safety and client readiness.

Psychoeducation
Purpose: Providing clients with a clear, science-based understanding of their condition, which demystifies experiences, reduces anxiety, and fosters a collaborative treatment alliance.

Adjunct Medical Management
Role: Where clinically indicated, pharmacotherapy is integrated as a supportive component of a comprehensive treatment plan, managed in consultation with prescribing clinicians.
Our treatment philosophy is based on contemporary models of addiction, which we conceptualize through several evidence-based lenses:

Through a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) framework, addiction is viewed as:
• A learned behavior that can be unlearned and replaced.
• A maladaptive coping mechanism for managing emotional distress and stress.

From a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) perspective, it is understood as a consequence of core deficits in emotional regulation and impulse control skills.

We operate on the principle that, with adequate motivation and professional support, individuals have the capacity to relearn, adapt, and fundamentally improve their quality of life.
While we acknowledge that Twelve-Step programs offer valuable support for some, they do not form the foundational model of our clinical practice.
Our objective extends beyond symptom reduction. We aim to empower individuals to gain deeper insight into their condition and develop new, sustainable ways of regulating emotions and behavior.
We understand addiction not as a “moral failing” or “character flaw”, but as a complex condition arising from the interaction of individual vulnerability, life experience, neurobiological factors, and learned coping strategies.
We practice evidence-based psychotherapy within a clinical framework. Our methodology is rooted in interventions proven effective by scientific research and clinical practice, moving beyond generic or ideological templates.
